It takes an exorbitant amount of strength, determination and perseverance to achieve success in spite of obstacles and Shyjan Philip belongs to that category of go-getters in business who have battled against adversity and won. He is the Managing Director of Muscat-based Nimr Sand Trading and Logistics L.L.C. which is engaged in providing transportation and logistical solutions to the oil field sector.
A native of Chazhoor in Thrissur district of Kerala, Mr. Shyjan was born to T.P. Philip, who retired from the Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department, and Thressiama Philip, a humble homemaker. After schooling, he successfully completed the technical course from St. Xavier’s Technical Institute and secured a bachelor’s degree in Commerce. After his studies Mr. Shyjan left for Pune, where he worked with Bajaj Tempo, from 1995 to 1998.
The decisive moment in his career was when he attended a direct interview from Pune and came to the Sultanate of Oman for the first time. From 1998 to 2004, Mr. Shyjan worked with the Production Department of Al Khood Steel Furniture L.L.C., belonging to the Raha Group. From 2005 to 2012, he was with National Tower Transport as Manager of Logistics as well as Maintenance Department. He played a key role in expanding the ambit of the firm. When he joined there were only two vehicles and with his hard work and business acumen, Mr. Shyjan was able to expand the fleet to a more comfortable number. In between, he had to face some unforeseen circumstances that tested his mettle and determination. But he was able to bounce back and start his own firm, Nimr Sand Trading and Logistics LLC, and today he has 18 employees working under him. He started a building material organization, Al Meha Modern Trading and Contracting LLC, in 2012.
Nimr Sand Trading and Logistics LLC is engaged in safely facilitating all aspects of Oil field mainly OCTG, Flowline pipes and skid transportation. It is also involved in the Energy Sector, transporting transformers to various interior destination and placing the transformers on sub-station basement. The company has the expertise to ensure a smooth logistical flow through each step of the process.
Nimr Sand Trading and Logistics LLC is the proud owner of a fleet of PDO-approved and non-PDO vehicles. They include flat-bed and low-bed trailers, 10-tonne trucks, Hiab trucks and Mobile Cranes. Nimr Sand Trading and Logistics LLC also possesses the expertise to transport various chemicals from one destination to another. Cargo clearing and transport services are another area where the company operates. It also rents out construction equipment as well as mobile cranes.
Mr. Shyjan credits his growth to the support of his wife, Sweety Raphael, who used to work as a nurse but is now a homemaker. They are blessed with five children. The eldest, Agnel Maria, completed her graduation in Mass Media, Literature and Psychology from Christ Deemed University in Bengaluru and is working with Visual-Media Department of Christ Academy, Bengaluru. The second child, Sween Mary, is an Seventh Grade student, the third, Hanna Mary, is in the Fifth Grade, the fourth, Marie Claire, is in the Second Grade and the fifth child, Joseph Philip, is in kindergarten. Mr. Shyjan is passionate about soccer, reading and music.
