When it comes to changing lives by mending smiles as well as managing several enterprises as a seasoned entrepreneur and orthodontist Dr Abubacker Siddique MDS is a class apart. He has 29 years of professional expertise, of which 26 have been dedicated to serving the community in Salalah. For a quarter century, he has been leading the Al Zahir Orthodontic Centre in Salalah, Sultanate of Oman. Under his stewardship, the Orthodontic Centre has made a name for itself as a trusted destination for personalised treatment to regain that confident smile.
A Journey That Began in Kodungallur
Hailing from the historic town of Kodungallur, Abubacker was born as the son of the late Mohiyudeen, and Rukia, both were teachers. After schooling, he joined Vinayaka Mission’s Sankaracharyar Dental College Salem for BDS. Later, he completed his Master’s from the same institution and came out with flying colours by winning the gold medal. The decisive moment in his career came in 2000 when he came to Salalah in the Sultanate. After working in a private clinic for 6 years, he started Al Zahir medical complex, and the rest is history. Today, the establishment has branched into Al Zahir Orthodontic Centre, Al Zahir Specialised Dental Centre, Modern Al Zahir Specialized Dental Centre in Salalah. These clinics are run in partnership with two close friends. Apart from them, Abubacker also runs the Raihan Specialty Dental Clinic in Vengara, Malappuram District.
As the Managing Director and visionary founder of Al Zahir Group of Institutions, Abubacker has successfully expanded his entrepreneurial footprint by becoming the proud owner of Raihan Specialised Centre, which is a premium, state-of-the-art dental facility, and the Ihsan Specialised Dental Centre.
Abubacker is also a partner of Star World, a travel agency, and Art of Spices, a fine dining restaurant in Salalah that blends culinary excellence with community hospitality. It has a lavish spread of Indian dishes and promises to take gourmands on a culinary journey that is packed with flavours.
Blending Treatment and Entrepreneurship
Under the able leadership of Abubacker, the group also runs three pharmacies. At his clinics, the popular treatment modalities on offer are dental implants, braces, teeth whitening, dentures, dental crowns, dental bridges, root canal treatment and ceramic brackets to name a few.
The centre boasts different specialties such as Orthodontics, Endodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Periodontics and Paedodontics. In short, all solutions are under one umbrella. It has state-of-the-art equipment that reflect the modern trends in dentistry. Abubacker and his trusted team make sure that all procedures are carried out under germ-free conditions using rubber dam, 3D filling warm vertical compaction, rotary endodontics, etc. The centre also has proficiency in handling complex cases such as non-surgical re-treatments such as separated file removal and root end surgery.
Their Periodontics Department covers all types of procedures related to treating gum diseases, gingivitis plus periodontitis, GTR and the correction of gummy smiles. The Paedodontic Department has amenities to deal with children who are non-cooperative during procedures. The clinic also does teeth whitening, smile designing and tooth-coloured restorations.
Family and Passions
A member of the Indian Social Club and its Malayalam Wing, Abubacker is married to Dr Sameera MSc PhD, who works in Oman college of Health sciences, Salalah. Their eldest son Answaf has completed his B.D.S from the prestigious Manipal Academy of Higher Education while the second boy Afsan is doing MBBS at Azeezia Medical College in Kollam. The third son Ihsan is in Class VIII at Indian School Salalah. Passionate about music and badminton, Dr. In India, he plays a key role in Peace Valley, a state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre located on ten acres at Kothamangalam, Ernakulam.
Throughout his tenure in Salalah, Dr Abubacker has been a pillar of support to the Indian expatriate community. He served as president of the Indian School Salalah from April 2023 to May 2025, leading transformative initiatives for student welfare and institutional growth. As a valued School Management Committee member, he chairs the Project Committee, driving key development projects to enhance infrastructure and opportunities.
