With trust, quality, and the right dose of innovation, Jagajith Prabhakaran has etched his name in golden letters in the manufacturing and wholesale/retail sale of handmade jewellery in the Sultanate. He is the Managing Director of Cochin Gold and Diamonds, which began with a single-shutter showroom at Ruwi High Street in 2015. Today, it has three branches with plans for a major expansion across the country.
The Journey So Far
Jagajith hails from Arattupuzha in Thrissur District, where he was born to the late Prabhakaran, an agriculturist, and Janaki Prabhakaran, a housewife. It was in 1987 that he explored the possibility of establishing a retail gold and diamond jewellery brand in Oman using his expertise in jewellery manufacturing and wholesale and retail sale. His efforts led him to start Assarain Jewellery LLC in 1993, which has been delivering high quality services ever since.
Assarain Gold LLC opened its first gold and diamond jewellery showroom under the Cochin Gold and Diamonds brand name at Ruwi High Street on April 16, 2015. Today, it is synonymous with purity and quality. In 2016, south Indian film actor Jayaram inaugurated the renovated Ruwi showroom at High Street. Here, it flaunted a 210 sovereign hand-crafted single chain made in its own manufacturing unit.
In April 2017, Cochin Gold and Diamonds merged with UAE-based Liali Jewellery LLC, a company with a chain of up-market boutiques under the name Liali. It takes pride in bringing innovative concepts in jewellery and strives to keep up with the latest trends. In May 2017, Malayalam actor
Dulquer Salman inaugurated the second showroom at Oman Avenues Mall at Al Ghubrah. It displayed and sold a 2kg hand-crafted single chain made in the same manufacturing unit.
In December the same year, Malayalam cine icon Padmashree Mammootty inaugurated the third showroom of Cochin Gold and Diamonds at Al Hambar Street in Sohar. In December 2021, Hamed Ibrahim Ali Al Wahaibi opened the relocated showroom of the brand on the ground floor of Gold Souk in Oman Avenues Mall.

Currently, plans are afoot to open eight more showrooms in the country. Four more are slated to come up in prime locations of Barkah, Salalah, Sur, and the Mall of Oman are in the offing.

Family
Jagajith is married to Sumana, who is the Board Member of Cochin Gold and Diamonds and the director of a supermarket. Their eldest son, Jithendrajith, has an MBA from London and is working as the Manager of OUA in Muscat.
The second son Mahendrajith, has an MBA from Emirates University and is the Executive Director of Cochin Gold and Diamonds at the moment. The third son, Indrajith, is a BBA holder and is an emerging actor. This ace businessman is also involved in various social activities from 2015.
