P. R. Ajit
Founder
Worldlink Shipping and Logistics LLC
Muscat, Sultanate of Oman
From advertising to international shipping and logistics, P. R. Ajit’s career has been shaped by adaptability, perseverance and the courage to recognise opportunity when it appears. Today, as the founder of Worldlink Shipping and Logistics LLC, he is at the helm of a company providing integrated logistics solutions across sea, road and air freight.
A Journey That Began in Chalappuram, Kozhikode
Every career has a starting point, but few follow a path as varied as that of P. R. Ajit.
Born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, to the late P. Ramachandran and T. V. Anjana, Ajit pursued a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at Malabar Christian College, Kozhikode. His professional journey, however, began far from the world of shipping and logistics.
In 1986, he entered the advertising industry, joining Four Aces, where he spent two years. He then moved to Dimensions Unlimited in Kochi, gaining another two years of experience before joining the advertising section of the Calicut Times in 1990.
Later, in 1993, an opportunity took him to Dubai, UAE. It was there that his career began to move in an entirely new direction.
Ajit joined IAL Container Line (Penguin Shipping) as an Import Executive. His exposure to shipping, cargo handling and international trade opened the door to an industry that would eventually become his professional calling.
After two years, he moved to Transworld Shipping and Logistics in 1995. What followed was more than two decades of professional growth. Ajit steadily progressed through the organisation, gaining experience across different aspects of the shipping and logistics business and developing the leadership skills that would later prove invaluable.
By the time he left in 2017, he had risen to the position of General Manager, Oman, overseeing the company’s operations in the country.
The Entrepreneurial Leap
After more than 20 years in the shipping and logistics industry, Ajit reached a crossroads.
Rather than continuing along a familiar corporate path, he chose to build something of his own.
In 2017, he established Worldlink Shipping and Logistics LLC, marking the beginning of a new chapter ,this time as an entrepreneur.
The decision was not a leap into the unknown. It was the culmination of decades spent understanding the industry from the inside: its opportunities, challenges, relationships and constantly changing demands.
Worldlink primarily handles export business, reefer containers and oil and gas-related logistics.
Among the major companies it works with are Badr Shipping, CMA, Sealand and Sohar Shipping.
For Ajit, entrepreneurship has meant recognising changing market conditions, understanding customer requirements and having the confidence to act when the right opportunity presents itself.
One Partner, Multiple Logistics Solutions
Under Ajit’s leadership, Worldlink has developed a broad portfolio of services designed to meet the increasingly complex requirements of businesses operating across Oman and international markets.
The company’s integrated logistics offering spans sea and air freight forwarding, import and export services, customs clearance, roll-on/roll-off cargo, break-bulk and hazardous cargo handling, project logistics and overland transportation.
Its capabilities extend further to personal effects cargo, packing and removal, warehousing and distribution, marine insurance, contract logistics, open-yard storage and container sales.
The philosophy is straightforward: provide customers with a logistics partner capable of handling multiple stages of the supply chain rather than forcing them to coordinate with several service providers.
That integrated approach has become increasingly important in a world where supply chains are expected to be not only efficient but also flexible and responsive.
Moving Cargo by Road
Road transportation forms an important part of Worldlink’s logistics network.
The company provides full- and part-load transportation, transport on request, dedicated and rental transportation, distribution and specialised transport services.
Its capabilities include tamper-proof transit, movement of cargo from the port of discharge to its final destination, door-to-door delivery, as well as warehousing and storage.
For specialised requirements, Worldlink’s overland transportation fleet includes three-tonne to ten-tonne truck flatbeds, low beds, genset trailers and PDO trailers.
This range allows the company to respond to diverse cargo requirements, from conventional freight movements to more specialised project and industrial transportation.
Taking Freight to the Skies
Worldlink’s air freight division complements its sea and road transportation capabilities.
The company provides door-to-door air freight forwarding supported by an advanced tracking and tracing system. Its service begins with cargo collection from the shipper’s warehouse and continues through documentation, export packing, import clearance, warehousing, distribution and final delivery to the consignee.
The company handles both general and perishable cargo and has qualified personnel for the safe handling of dangerous goods.
By bringing together sea, air and road freight capabilities, Worldlink offers customers greater flexibility in choosing the transportation solution that best suits their cargo, timelines and business requirements.
A Career Defined by Adaptability
What makes Ajit’s professional story particularly interesting is not simply where he is today, but the many turns that brought him here.
He began in advertising, moved into publishing, gained international exposure in Dubai and eventually built a career in shipping and logistics.
Each chapter contributed something valuable. By the time he decided to establish Worldlink in 2017, he had accumulated more than three decades of professional experience across different industries and markets.
His journey is therefore a reminder that careers do not always follow straight lines. Sometimes, the experiences that appear unrelated at first become the very foundation for future success.
Family and Passions
Beyond the demands of business, family remains an important part of Ajit’s life.
He is married to Marina, a graduate in History. Their daughter, Amla Ajit, pursued an MBA in Finance from Alliance University, Bengaluru, after completing her graduate studies in Commerce at Jyoti Nivas College, Bengaluru.
Amla is married to Lewis Francis Vayalumkal, who holds a BTech in Civil Engineering from Mar Baselios College of Engineering and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, and an MBA from Alliance University, Bengaluru. Lewis is associated with and in charge of Worldlink Business SPC.
The couple have three children: Francis Lewis Vayalumkal, who is in Class III; Mariah Rose Lewis, who is in Class I; and Micaiah Mary Lewis, the youngest member of the family.
Away from work, Ajit enjoys playing basketball and is an enthusiastic follower of cricket, interests that provide a welcome balance to the demands of running a growing business.
Sailing Ahead
The story of P. R. Ajit is ultimately a story about recognising opportunities and turning them into successful business ideas.
A young graduate in mathematics began his career in advertising. An opportunity in Dubai introduced him to shipping. Two decades of experience in the industry prepared him for entrepreneurship. And in 2017, he took the decisive step of building a company of his own.
Today, Worldlink Shipping and Logistics stands as the product of that journey, shaped by experience, strengthened by relationships and driven by an understanding of the changing needs of global trade.
As supply chains continue to evolve and businesses demand greater speed, flexibility and reliability from their logistics partners, Ajit remains focused on navigating those changing waters.
With experience as his compass and opportunity as his guiding wind, his journey , much like the industry he serves ,continues to sail ahead.
