Najeeb Chalikandy Puthiya Purayil
Chairman and Managing Director
Al Fidan International, Barka, Oman
Success stories often emerge from the most unassuming beginnings, and the journey of Najeeb Chalikandy Puthiya Purayil is a testament to the power of ambition, perseverance, and vision. From the quiet village of Vengad in Kerala’s Kannur district to the boardrooms of a thriving international business empire, Najeeb’s rise is nothing short of inspirational. With an indomitable spirit and an entrepreneurial drive that refused to be shackled by limitations, he carved a niche for himself in the competitive world of business. Today, as the Chairman and Managing Director of Al Fidan International, he continues to scale new heights while staying true to his humble roots.
Born and raised in Vengad, Najeeb was no stranger to the dreams that often take root in small-town India. Encouraged by his parents—his father, C.K. Mustafa Haji, a businessman, and his mother, Kunjaminah, a homemaker—he nurtured ambitions that stretched far beyond the confines of his village. He completed his schooling at Vengad Mappila UP School and Vengad Government Higher Secondary School. He completed his degree from the College of Commerce and his MBA through correspondence course from Calicut University.
Even during his student years, Najeeb was a dynamic presence, actively engaging in campus politics and social work. But beyond political aspirations, he held onto a personal promise — to establish a successful business of his own. Little did he know that this dream would one day translate into a vast and influential enterprise spanning multiple countries.
In 2004, Najeeb took the leap that would set him on his path to success. Arriving in Oman, he secured a job as a van salesman with Unilever in Sohar. For many, this may have seemed like an ordinary job, but for Najeeb, it was an opportunity to prove his mettle. Within just six months, he earned the prestigious title of “Champion of Oman in Sales” and was swiftly promoted to Sales Executive.
But deep down, the fire of entrepreneurship burned bright. Despite his success at Unilever, Najeeb knew that he was destined to build something of his own. In 2006, he made the bold decision to resign and pursue his entrepreneurial dream.
In 2007, along with his brothers, Advocate Mujeeb Rehman and Anwar Sadath, Najeeb co-founded Bab Al Rahma in Sharjah, UAE. This marked the beginning of his foray into business. Seven years later, in 2014, he took a defining step by launching Al Fidan International Trading LLC, initially dealing in wholesale ceramic trading.
The company’s commitment to quality, customer satisfaction, and innovative marketing strategies led to its rapid expansion. By 2015, Al Fidan International had opened a second branch in Sharjah. The brand’s reputation grew, and soon, Oman became a significant market for Najeeb’s products.
With an eye on diversification and brand building, Najeeb introduced Emmy Sanitarywares in the UAE, further strengthening his business portfolio. His foresight led him to identify a profitable shift—moving from wholesale distribution to direct retail sales. By 2019, he had established four showrooms in Oman—Ruwi, Mabelah, Barka, and Al Rumays—catering to a wide range of clientele, from high-end buyers to budget-conscious consumers. He recently added one more showroom in Al Mabella in Muscat.
In 2022, Najeeb made yet another strategic move by shifting his family to Muscat and launching a massive 6,000 sq. ft. exclusive showroom in Barka. Sourcing high-quality materials from Spain, Italy, India, and China, the business saw a significant boost.
Determined to create an even greater impact in the ceramic industry, he founded Tile Empire in Rajkot, India, in 2022. By 2023-24, in joint ventures with 45 factories, he started exporting to Oman, Kuwait, and Qatar, cementing his company’s reputation as a leading player in the sector. His company is also the top exporter to Oman. He has also incorporated a private limited company in the United Kingdom under the name Tilevista Ltd.
Today, Al Fidan Ceramics is a household name, recognized for its premium quality products and stellar customer service. As an authorized dealer of Al Shams, Al Maha Ceramics, and RAK Ceramics in Oman, the company is a trusted distributor for residential and commercial projects alike.
Najeeb’s business empire continues to flourish. With a staff strength of 200, his network of showrooms has expanded across Oman to include locations in Sohar, Barka, Rumais, Nizwa, Ibri, Sinaw, and Jalan Bani Buali. By the end of 2025, his goal is to have a presence in every major city in the Sultanate. In Salalah, three showrooms are set to open, while in Al Khuwair, Muscat, he is planning a high-end showroom that will showcase luxury products.
Expanding his product range, he has introduced Bianca luxury—a premium brand manufactured in China with European and US specifications, offering a 10-year warranty. Additionally, he is working on a more economical brand, Blenza Sanitaryware, also to be manufactured in China. To support this growth, his company operates a sprawling one-million-square-foot warehouse in Barka.
While business success defines much of Najeeb’s journey, he remains deeply committed to his community. During his early years in the UAE, he served as the Dharmadom Mandala General Secretary of the Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre in Dubai, actively engaging in social work. He is also the general secretary of Vengad Mahal Organisation (VMO) and CEO of Youth Relief Center. Despite his success, he chooses not to hold formal positions in social organizations, believing that real change happens through quiet, impactful contributions. Whether assisting individuals in need of education or medical support, he prefers to let his actions speak for themselves.
Najeeb’s contributions have not gone unnoticed. In 2023, he was honored with the Mastervision Young Talented Businessman Award, followed by the Mastervision Emerging Businessman Award in 2024. In 2025, he received the Emerging Businessman Award from the Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Global Media, further solidifying his status as a business leader.
Beyond the boardroom, Najeeb is an avid traveler, having visited more than 50 countries. His passion for adventure has led him to explore Europe and the United Kingdom in campervans with his family. Chess, cricket, and social work are among his other interests, reflecting a well-rounded personality that values both personal and professional fulfillment.
Najeeb attributes much of his success to the unwavering support of his family. He is married to Shefana, a Dubai-born graduate, and together they have three children: Fidan Najeeb (Grade 11), Fadia Femin Najeeb (Grade 7), and Mohammed Hamdan Najeeb (Grade 4), all studying at British School Muscat.
From a small village in Kerala to becoming a business leader, Najeeb’s journey is a beacon of inspiration. His story underscores the power of resilience, the importance of vision, and the rewards of perseverance. As he continues to expand his business empire, one thing remains clear — Najeeb is not just building a company; he is crafting a legacy that will inspire generations to come.
