Boban Madamana Pailo
Chief Executive Officer
Unimoni Exchange LLC
Muscat, Oman
Boban Madamana Pailo stands as a distinguished leader in the financial services industry, currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Unimoni Exchange LLC., Muscat, Oman. With a remarkable career spanning nearly three decades, Boban has played a transformative role in expanding and reimagining the business landscape for one of the region’s most trusted financial service providers. From orchestrating large-scale business turnarounds to launching innovative financial solutions across geographies, Boban’s leadership journey reflects a rare blend of strategic foresight, operational excellence, and people-centric vision.

Beginning his journey with the UAE Exchange (now Unimoni) in 1997, Boban’s early assignments in India laid the groundwork for what would become a career marked by bold innovation and global expansion. Directly recruited by the top management, Boban, based in New Delhi, led the launch and management of UAE Exchange operations across 10 northern Indian states. He supervised the opening of over 40 branches and building a network that would evolve into one of the region’s most robust financial footprints. His success in establishing a thriving regional base, introducing franchise models, and securing critical regulatory approvals marked the beginning of a career that would take him across continents. The company was able to open in Bangladesh and Nepal during the period.

In 2007, Boban was entrusted with a significant new challenge—establishing UAE Exchange’s footprint in Africa as Country Head in Sudan. As Project Head for the continent, he spearheaded the setup of operations in seven countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Zambia, Botswana, Seychelles, and Morocco. From securing regulatory approvals to building and training local teams, Boban was instrumental in creating self-sustaining operations in each of these markets. His ability to understand local market dynamics, coupled with his strategic roll-out of customized products and services, enabled each African operation to become profitable within just a year of commencement—a feat rarely achieved in such complex and diverse territories. The company touched the breakeven point quite early and the return on investment for the company was super high.

Building on his success in Africa, Boban was elevated to Regional Head for North, West, and South Africa. In this role, he not only stabilized and expanded the existing businesses but also introduced a range of products and services tailored specifically to regional demands, including mobile remittance solutions and innovative partnerships with telecom providers. His efforts significantly contributed to the UAE Exchange Group gaining access to a burgeoning $45 billion African remittance market, firmly establishing the company as a trusted brand across the continent.

In 2015, Boban was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Unimoni Exchange in Oman—a move that would prove pivotal both for the organization and the financial services industry in the Sultanate. Tasked with leading a full-scale business transformation of the company, Boban undertook a comprehensive overhaul of its strategy, operations, and market positioning.
Under his stewardship, Unimoni Oman underwent a rebranding and repositioning exercise that realigned the company’s focus towards customer-centric innovation, digital transformation, and service excellence. He introduced a new go-to-market strategy, revamped sales channels, streamlined cash flow management, and implemented structured customer segmentation. These changes, alongside his sharp leadership, triggered a consistent growth trajectory that saw the company achieving its highest revenue years between 2016 and 2019.

One of Boban’s hallmark contributions during this period was securing regulatory approvals for a range of pioneering services. Unimoni became the first exchange house in Oman to launch online money transfer services and self-service remittance kiosks, revolutionizing customer experience in the sector. He further extended the company’s capabilities by introducing B2B services and launching a Wholesale Bank Notes Division, enabling collaborations with banks and exchange houses both locally and globally.

In Oman, Unimoni has close to 60 branches (31 in Muscat alone) and 420 plus staff members and has presence in even remote oil fields and labour camps of the country. Boban’s strategic initiatives led to Unimoni Oman capturing a remarkable 25% market share in remittance services and 45% in foreign exchange and currency business. He also played a critical role in the development of the company’s digital infrastructure, including the integration of a payment gateway backed by the Central Bank Switch. The results were unequivocal—Unimoni Oman emerged as the country’s most trusted and innovative financial service provider.
Boban’s visionary leadership has not gone unnoticed. He was featured in the “100 Successful CEOs of Oman” list by the Oman Economic Review in 2019, a testament to his enduring impact on the country’s financial landscape. He also received global recognition for his excellence in leadership and digital innovation, with accolades from the World Confederation of Business and other international bodies.

Unimoni Oman, under his leadership, was repeatedly recognized as the “Most Admired Country” within the Group and received numerous awards for product innovation, service quality, and digital transformation. These include the ESQR Award for Product Innovation in 2017, Oman’s Digital Transformation Award in 2018, and multiple honors for being the best remittance and foreign exchange provider.
Beyond Oman and Africa, Boban’s influence extends to multiple geographies. His representation of the group and Unimoni at high-profile forums across the globe, including the World Economic Forum in Jordan, highlights his standing as a respected industry voice. His international engagements have taken him to countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Switzerland, South Africa, Malaysia, and many more, where he has shared insights on financial inclusion, innovation, and regulatory alignment.
