Hailing from Mavelikkara in Kerala’s Alappuzha district, Thomas hails from a family that quietly valued diligence and discipline. His father, the late Thomas John, worked as Workshop and Store-in-charge at the renowned Larsen & Toubro, setting a benchmark in dedication that would influence the young Thomas. His mother, Rebecca John, a homemaker, instilled in him the values of compassion, humility, and perseverance—qualities that continue to shape his leadership style today.
Fuelled by an early fascination for machines and the structures that shape the world, Thomas pursued his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the esteemed Jadavpur University, Kolkata—one of India’s premier engineering institutions also Thomas is a Chartered Engineer & Corporate member of Indian Institute of Engineers. Not one to rest on his academic laurels, he later acquired the NEBOSH Diploma, an internationally recognized certification in health and safety, adding another dimension to his professional toolkit.
His journey into the professional world began in 1992 as a tutor at Don Bosco Technical Institute in Kolkata, where he honed not just his technical skills, but also his ability to mentor and lead. A brief stint as a service engineer with Lawrence & Mayo followed in 1994, after which he joined Hikal Construction in Navi Mumbai from 1995 to 1997, gaining invaluable field experience in real-time construction environments.
The defining chapter of his career began in 1997 when he joined Al Ansari Engineering Services LLC Oman as a Project Engineer. At the time, the company was expanding its footprint in Oman’s burgeoning oil, gas, and infrastructure sectors. Thomas, with his technical prowess and operational agility, quickly distinguished himself as an asset. His rise through the ranks was steady and well-earned, culminating in his appointment as General Manager. In recognition of his unwavering commitment, he was awarded for completing 25 years of service—a testament to his loyalty and impact.
Today, Thomas helms one of Oman’s most respected engineering firms. Established in 1983 as part of the Al Ansari Group, Al Ansari Engineering Services LLC is an ISO 9001:2015 certified company with a multi-disciplinary presence across the GCC & India. The firm specializes in oil and gas mechanical services, floor coating solutions, modular building construction, and facilities management. Under Thomas’s leadership, the department has grown its team to over 150 skilled professionals, investing significantly in training, innovation, and employee welfare.
Al Ansari is known for landmark projects involving the fabrication and construction of high-pressure gas tanks, surge vessels, molasses storage tanks, transformer oil tanks, and modular buildings including multi-store office cabins, rig site camps, and mosque construction for remote project locations. With a client base that includes the Ministry of Defense, Royal Oman Police, Occidental Oman Inc., PDO, OQ, Sohar Aluminum, Oman LNG, and Shell Oman Marketing Co., Al Ansari is synonymous with reliability and excellence.
Thomas’s focus on safety, ethical standards, and quality execution has been instrumental in the company being rated as an “Excellent Grade” contractor by the Oman Chamber of Commerce and the Tender Board. His sharp business foresight has also enabled successful collaborations with global companies from the USA, Europe, and Asia, further enhancing Al Ansari’s technical capacity and international footprint.
His leadership style combines a strong engineering foundation with a people-first philosophy. Known to personally interact with staff across all levels, Thomas has championed a work culture that values collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement. He is deeply involved in Al Ansari’s calendar of employee engagement events, such as Al Ansari Day, behavioral and technical training workshops, induction programs, and performance reviews.
Outside the boardroom, Thomas is actively engaged in the community. He is a charter member and past president of the Lions Club International, and a proud member of the Ruwi Malayalee Association, contributing his time and energy to social initiatives. A man of quiet faith and strong family values, Thomas is married to Lency Thomas, a postgraduate in Malayalam. They have two sons who are pursuing promising careers—Abel John Thomas, a qualified sound engineer from Muzic Lounge Chennai and DJ from Chennai’s Scratch Institute, who also holds shares in Muscat Fried Chicken in Ruwi, and Alwyn Mathew Thomas, currently pursuing a BA (Hons) in Political Science at Amity University-Noida -Delhi.
