If Financial Management is an art, then it would not be wrong to call Gibu Chacko FCA a maestro who has perfected it. The Associate Partner of Crowe Oman’s Salalah branch since 2019, he has proved his mettle in managing Cash Flow Statements as well as Risk and Budget Management using the expertise and experience he has gained over the years. Established in the Sultanate of Oman in 1995, Crowe Oman has now earned a place among the top 10 Auditing and Accounting companies in the country.
Journey That Began in Pampady
Armed with the experience he gained there, Gibu joined the Target Group of Companies in Botswana, Africa, as Group Finance Manager in February 2005 and served there until 2007. There he exercised his skills in Financial Management, Cash Flow Statements, Budget Management and Financing. In 2007, he shifted to REP Group of Companies in the same country as Finance Director and remained there for almost five years. While serving there, his hard work, dedication and skill sets were amply rewarded. He was promoted to the Directors Board in 2011.
In the year 2012, he moved to Global Services Group in the Sultanate of Oman as Group Financial Controller. While handling this responsibility, he was privileged to lend his services as General Manager of Industrial Packing, an associate company of the Group, from 2015 to 2018. He also had the additional responsibility of acting as Secretary to the Board and Financial Consultant for Arabian Sea Ports Services, which oversees the bulk dry warehouse project at the Port of Salalah.
As a subsidiary of the Algeposa Group SA of Spain, Gibu held this role from 2013 to 2017 during the construction phase of the project. His was responsible for drafting the Authority Matrix to establish clear governance and decision-making structures. He also played a pivotal role in project fund mobilization, ensuring timely financial resources and provided regular updates to stakeholders on project progress and funding requirements. A man of vision and wise strategy, Gibu later moved on to Dhofar Holding SAOC as Director and worked there until 2021 before joining Crowe Oman.
Crowe Oman opened its branch in Salalah in 2019 given its reputation as a tourist destination attracting considerable investments in tourism and ancillary sectors. Thanks to solid infrastructure and proximity to the main transshipment hub, the city is witnessing major investments from the domestic business community as well as overseas. The city also sports the Salalah Free Zone, which was set up to transform it into one of the most attractive business destinations globally. In this scenario, Crowe Oman provides advisory, insurance, tax and transaction services. The Salalah office headed by Gibu and team is totally equipped to handle all sorts of clients and help them make smart decisions with lasting value.
Family and Passions
Gibu, who loves classical music, is married to Jeslin Kurian (CA), who works in the same organisation. They have two daughters. While Fiona Lizabeth is a Class XI student, Ferah Theresa is in Class X in Indian School Salalah. Both of them are into music just like their father, who is learning classical music. Gibu also loves globe-trotting and has already travelled to Spain, Georgia, Armenia, Botswana, South Africa and other nations in the Middle East. He is a member of the Indian Social Club Salalah and was the Secretary of its charity wing from 2016 to 2021. He has also conducted subject-related presentations for UTAS in association with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Gibu was also instrumental in organising classes for Omanis to train them to become CFOs. It was an eight-week course organised in association with the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
