From humble beginnings and relentless hard work that led to a Project Manager position in 1985, to becoming the Executive Director and Partner of a leading player in the industrial and construction sectors, the story of Mr. Nicholas Lazar exemplifies unwavering commitment, profound expertise, and visionary leadership. An accomplished professional with a Doctorate in Business Administration, Mr. Nicholas has built a distinguished career spanning over four decades in the Middle East.
Mr. Nicholas began his Middle East journey in the early seventies, with a significant career milestone in 1985 when he joined Insulation Engineering Company (UK) in Qatar as a Project Manager. During this time, he honed his expertise in industrial insulation, scaffolding, and fireproofing. Later, he relocated to Oman to take on the role of Manager and Working Partner at M/s. Fairdeal Contracting, marking another pivotal step in his professional growth.
In 1997, Mr. Nicholas assumed a pivotal role as Division Manager at Nafal Contracting & Trading LLC, where he played an instrumental part in scaling the company to unprecedented heights. Today, as Executive Director and Partner of Nafal Contracting & Trading LLC, he oversees the Scaffolding, Insulation, and Painting (SIP) Division, along with driving the company’s operations with the Chairman Mr. Sarhan Ali Ahmed Al Sarhani and key management across sectors such as refineries, petrochemicals, LNG plants, power plants, cement manufacturing, and road works. His leadership has been vital in positioning Nafal as a trusted name in the industry.
Founded in 1983, Nafal Contracting & Trading Co. LLC has grown into a premier provider of specialized services in Oman’s oil and gas, civil construction, and infrastructure sectors. From humble beginnings, the company has expanded exponentially, establishing a strong presence in Oman as its Head Office and executing various projects in the UAE and Qatar.
Its current portfolio spans civil construction, electrical works, mechanical engineering, scaffolding, insulation, corrosion protection, refractory and fireproofing activities, catering to both industrial and residential clients.
The year 1997 marked a turning point in Nafal’s history under the leadership of Chairman Mr. Sarhan Ali Ahmed Al Sarhani. In his professional guidance, the company embarked on a path of diversification and step by step growth, achieving major milestones:
- Launch of the Civil Division in 2005
- Launch of the Electrical Division in 2009
- Launch of the Mechanical Division in 2011
These expansions enabled Nafal to provide comprehensive solutions, from design and installation to maintenance, solidifying its position as a market leader. With over 600 employees and operations across more than ten locations, Nafal is equipped for 24/7 project execution. Together, they have raised three children – two sons Mr. Nixon and Mr. Nelson and one daughter Dr. Nancy Maria. Guided by their father’s values and vision, they are actively involved in carrying forward his path, ensuring the continuation of his contributions to business and society. Mr. Nicholas is also a proud grandfather, cherishing the next generation of his family and instilling in them the principles of hard work, integrity, and compassion.
