Rajendran Lekshmanan, Managing Director of Sea Rose International Trading and Contracting LLC in Masirah, Oman, exemplifies a remarkable transformation from an Indian army personnel to a successful entrepreneur and dedicated social worker. Mr. Rajendran’s journey has been marked by resilience and enterprise, leading to the establishment of a multifaceted business empire in Oman. Despite his business commitments, he remains actively engaged in community service, significantly contributing to social causes.
Hailing from Veliyam in Kollam district of India’s Kerala state, Mr. Rajendran started his career in the armed forces of India soon after passing the pre-university examination.
His participation in the National Cadet Corps helped his in seeking a job in the armed forces and joined the Indian army in 1975. He was the personal body guard to two Presidents of India, V.V. Giri and Neelam Sanjeev Reddy. Although he loved his career in the army, his nature would not permit him to continue in the armed forces and quit in 1981.
Mr. Rajendran reached Al Haba in the eastern province of Saudi Arabia in 1981 where he worked as a civil supervisor. In 1984, he quit the job and returned to India. Soon after, he acquired a heavy vehicle driving license and reached Masirah in the Sultanate of Oman. For the next 15 years, he worked as a heavy vehicle driver and also started setting up business starting off with a readymade garments store. He later also opened an electronics store in Masirah.
As he started benefiting financially from his businesses, Mr. Rajendran invested in various businesses as when an opportunity came his way. He launched a supermarket and also a vehicle services garage. He also expanded his network of hardware stores mainly selling building materials. Today he has three hardware stores. In 2011, Mr. Rajendran incorporated all his businesses into Sea Rose International Trading and Contracting LLC.
Sea Rose deals in all types of paints, building materials, Al Shams tiles, marine accessories, generators, Omantech PVC and water pumps. The company also takes up civil contract works that Mr. Rajendran completes in record time.
Mr. Rajendran is also very active in the social scene despite his busy schedule away in Masirah Island. He became actively involved in the activities of SNDP Yogam Oman Union ever since he arrived in the Sultanate. From 2017, he was responsible for organizing a monthly prayer meeting of his community at the Shri Shiv Mandir, Muscat. The Gurupooja, that has wide participation from the community, is held on the third Saturday of every month. As the Chairman of the SNDP Yogam Oman Union, he has helped expand the network of the community from nine earlier into 26 branches across the Sultanate. In 2023, Mr. Rajendran was instrumental in hosting the general secretary of SNDP Union to Muscat for a meeting during Onam festivities.
Under Mr. Rajendran, the community members were able to contribute towards various social causes during COVID-19 and the floods of 2018 in Kerala. The community also contributed a sizeable amount for the people affected by the deluge in Wayanad of Kerala in 2024.
A keen volleyball player during his student and army days, Mr. Rajendran keeps a very strict regimen that helps him maintain his health even at the age of 69. Mr. Rajendran’s father, Lekshmanan was a contractor and his mother, Subhadra, was a homemaker.
Mr. Rajendran was married to Pavizhamani who passed away a few years back. He has two children; son Nithin Raj is a civil engineer and his daughter Neethu Raj is also a civil engineer.
