As the Managing Director of Excellent Steel LLC, his leadership has propelled the company to new heights, setting benchmarks in quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction across the Gulf region. With a career spanning over four decades in Nepal, India, and Oman, Suresh has earned a reputation for engineering excellence, unwavering integrity, and deep-rooted values.
Born in the culturally rich town of Kozhikode, Kerala, Suresh inherited humility and discipline from his parents—his late father, Gopalan Akkammadathil, who was both a schoolteacher and a farmer, and his late mother, Leela Gopalan, a dedicated homemaker. These modest beginnings instilled in him a lifelong commitment to hard work and community. After earning his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from the Kerala State Board of Technical Education and a Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the prestigious Patna Engineering College, Suresh embarked on a professional journey that would take him across borders and industries, culminating in his current role as a respected industry leader in Oman.
Suresh’s early professional life was rooted in service and structure—literally. In 1976, he was recruited by the Indian Army to serve in the engineering wing of the Royal Nepal Army. During his seven-year tenure, he honed his skills in military-grade engineering, logistics, and operations, laying the foundation for his future pursuits in the private sector. In 1988, he transitioned into the civilian construction world by joining M/s. Jayee Constructions in Kathmandu as Project Manager, where he demonstrated an eye for detail and natural leadership until 1993.
A turning point in his career came in 1995 when he arrived in Oman and joined M/s. MK Trading and Contracting, Wadi Kabir—a pioneering company in the steel fabrication and pre-engineered building sector in the GCC. Suresh played a pivotal role in the company’s expansion. As Shop Floor Incharge, he oversaw critical projects, including the design, fabrication, and erection of massive steel structures. Under his stewardship, the company successfully completed more than 250 fuel stations for Shell Oman, Oman Oil, and Al Maha, as well as multi-storey buildings and warehouses covering up to 12,000 sqm. His experience also included the development of niche solutions such as core-lac shuttering and complex steel works, reinforcing his versatility in the field.
In 2005, Suresh joined M/s. Dalma Steel Industries LLC in Ghala as Assistant General Manager, a position he held until 2011. His time at Dalma further broadened his exposure to cutting-edge fabrication technologies and large-scale project execution, laying the groundwork for his next ambitious move—leading a company of his own.
In 2011, Suresh assumed leadership at M/s. Excellent Steel LLC—a company synonymous with engineering excellence and client-focused execution. As Managing Director, he has steered the company into a period of sustained growth, specializing in the design, fabrication, and erection of complex steel structures, pre-engineered buildings, warehouses, vehicle showrooms, tanks, platforms, ladders with safety cages, pressure vessels, and heavy-duty pipe racks. With a commitment to zero compromise on quality and a mantra of customer satisfaction, Excellent Steel has delivered turnkey solutions tailored to client needs and visions.
The company’s fully equipped workshop in Barka is a hub of technical capability, boasting advanced machinery for cutting, welding, and drilling. Suresh leads a seasoned team of engineers, supervisors, and technicians, each aligned with his principles of quality, punctuality, and professionalism. Under his guidance, Excellent Steel has not only earned ISO 9001-2008 certification but also a loyal client base across multiple sectors in the Sultanate and beyond.
In 2023, Suresh expanded his business ventures to India, taking on the role of Executive Director at Merryfab Engineering Pvt. Ltd. in Thirumalayapalayam, Coimbatore. This new initiative marks another milestone in his entrepreneurial journey, allowing him to bring his expertise and commitment to excellence to the Indian market.
Beyond the welding lines and engineering drawings, Suresh is a man of deep social commitment and cultural passion. An ardent supporter of community welfare, he serves as Chief Patron of Vadakara Sahrudayavedhi, General Secretary of the Indian Science Forum Oman, and a key member of the Indian Social Club – Malayalam Wing. He is also the former President of the Sree Narayana Pravasi Samiti (SNPS), Oman Ruwi Shakha, through which he has led several cultural and charitable initiatives for the Indian diaspora. He is also a Trustee and Board Member of the Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences (SNIMS), Chalaka – Kochi. Music, travel, and gardening bring him personal joy, providing a creative counterbalance to his demanding professional life.
Suresh’s family life reflects the same values of education, humility, and achievement that define his career. His wife, Latha Devi, is a devoted homemaker and his steadfast companion. Their elder daughter, Punya Suresh, is a structural engineer working as Lead Structural Engineer at Tornado General Contracting in Abu Dhabi, and is married to Arthun Ram, a BTech-IT and MBA graduate, currently Director of R&D at Auberon Technology, Abu Dhabi. The couple are proud parents to young Avyukta, a bright fourth grader. His younger daughter, Varna Suresh, has earned her M-Arch in Landscape Architecture from The University of Greenwich, London, and is building a promising career at Tetra Tech, Inc. in London.
