With a career spanning over two decades, Tony Varghese has established himself as a dynamic leader in the corporate landscape of Oman. As the Vice President of Operations at Ras Al Hamra LLC, a 100% Omani owned company, he plays a pivotal role in driving business growth, overseeing corporate functions, and ensuring operational excellence across multiple industries, including oil and gas, wastewater management, and mining.
Since assuming his role in January 2023, Tony has been instrumental in shaping the company’s work culture, implementing ISO standards as the Management Representative, and managing the profit and loss of multiple business units. His expertise in business development, strategic planning, and financial oversight has significantly contributed to the organization’s success and market positioning.
A Journey of Dedication and Expertise
Hailing from Ollur, Thrissur, Tony’s academic and professional journey is marked by perseverance and ambition. Born to the late K.A. Varghese, a businessman, and Thresia, a homemaker, he completed his schooling at Don Bosco Irinjalakuda and later pursued his Mechanical Engineering degree at Government Engineering College, Thrissur.
Tony began his career in Gujarat, India, working with Kirloskar Cummins in Rajkot as a Sales Engineer, followed by a stint in Air Command India Ltd, Ahmedabad, specializing in air-conditioning systems. He later joined Larsen & Toubro (L&T) as an Application Specialist in its Eutectic Products Division, serving across Mumbai, Hyderabad, Cochin, and Coimbatore over seven years.
In 2002, Tony moved to Muscat, Oman, marking a significant milestone in his professional trajectory. He joined Abu Ilyas Trading LLC as a Sales Engineer, rapidly advancing to the role of Division Head for Engineered Products. Under his leadership, the division expanded from a modest three-member team to a highly profitable unit with over 20 employees.
Recognizing his business acumen, Ras Al Hamra LLC appointed Tony to establish and scale its trading division. As Business Director, he played a strategic role in strengthening the company’s brand identity, expanding market presence, and increasing annual sales revenue to over $30 million USD. Today, he leads a workforce of more than 50 professionals, driving innovation and sustainable business practices.
Academic Excellence and Industry Expertise
Tony holds a Doctorate in Business Administration from the European Institute for Management and Technology, Switzerland. His diverse expertise spans business development, conceptual selling, market expansion, and corporate strategy, with a strong focus on the oil and gas, power, and wastewater sectors.
He has represented his company at global business expos and conferences, collaborating with international manufacturers and stakeholders to foster business partnerships. His leadership in strategic decision-making, financial planning, and corporate governance has positioned him as a key influencer in the industry.
Personal Life and Philanthropy
Beyond his professional commitments, Tony is deeply involved in philanthropic and religious initiatives. He is married to Dr. Sheji Mary, a Ph.D. in Biotechnology, formerly associated with Sultan Qaboos University. Their daughter, Liz Therese Tony, is pursuing her Ph.D. in Cancer Therapy in Germany after earning her Master’s in Biomedical Science from KU Leuven, Belgium. Their son, Philip Tony, is currently a Bachelor of Design student at MIT Pune, India.
