Rajan Paul, a distinguished entrepreneur and Managing Director of Middle East Oilfield Services LLC (MIDOIL), has established a notable presence in the oil and gas industry of the Sultanate of Oman. Hailing from Thrissur, Kerala, and raised in the vibrant city of Mumbai, Mr. Paul represents a unique blend of heritage, ambition, industry expertise, and entrepreneurial vision. His professional journey in Oman reflects decades of dedication, leadership, and contribution to the Sultanate’s industrial development.
Born into the Padathiparambil family, Mr. Paul’s upbringing in Mumbai was strongly influenced by his father, Padathiparambil Paul, a former Royal Air Force officer who later became an entrepreneur. Inspired by this environment, Mr. Paul developed a strong foundation in discipline, enterprise, and professional commitment.
Mr. Paul began his career in Oman with Elf–Total Petroleum, where he worked for 13 years. This experience enabled him to develop extensive knowledge and expertise in the oil and gas sector, laying the foundation for his future entrepreneurial ventures.
The Establishment and Growth of MIDOIL
In 1992, driven by a commitment to excellence and a vision for sustainable growth, Mr. Paul co-founded Middle East Oilfield Services LLC (MIDOIL) with H.E. Saud Ibrahim Al Busaidy. Following Mr. Al Busaidy’s retirement, Mr. Paul assumed full leadership of the company and continued to strengthen MIDOIL’s position within Oman’s oil and gas industry.
Today, MIDOIL serves the energy and industrial sectors through a portfolio of international partnerships and is a Petroleum Development Oman (PDO)-approved vendor.
The company’s activities extend beyond the oil and gas sector to support water treatment plants, power plants, petrochemical facilities, cement industries, shipping, and other industrial applications. Its experienced sales and service team includes graduate engineers with specialized technical expertise, enabling the company to provide comprehensive techno-commercial support to its customers.
MIDOIL’s product and service portfolio includes:
- Valves, including Ball, Gate, Globe, Check, Butterfly, and Solenoid Valves
- Instrumentation Valves, including SBB, DBB, Manifolds, and Fittings
- Process and Automation Control Valves
- Pneumatic and Hydraulic Wellhead Systems
- Corrosion Monitoring and Chemical Injection Fittings
- Instrumentation and Measuring Devices
- Pipes and Tubes

Association with Darwish Ast LLC
Another significant chapter in Mr. Paul’s professional journey was his involvement with Darwish Ast LLC, a company with a long and distinguished history in the region.
The origins of the company can be traced to Graz, Austria, where it was established in 1898 as Messrs Ed. Ast & Co. Ingenieur. A sister concern, Overseas Ast Co. Ltd., was subsequently established in Kuwait. Companies operating under the same name were later established in the Trucial Oman States, now the United Arab Emirates, in 1960 and in Muscat and Oman, as the Sultanate was then known, in 1964.
In 1976, the company was reconstituted under the name Darwish Ast LLC, with majority shareholding held by Omani nationals. The company underwent further restructuring on May 1, 2004, during which Mr. Paul became involved through the acquisition of shares.
Darwish Ast LLC contributed to various aspects of Oman’s development and was associated with several important projects in the Sultanate. Its work included the restoration of historic buildings, including the reproduction of period interiors, as well as projects for the Diwan of Royal Court.
Among the company’s most prestigious assignments was its involvement in the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat. Darwish Ast LLC was entrusted with interior marble and ceramic mosaic works, as well as exterior and interior doors for the landmark mosque.
A significant portion of the company’s work was undertaken for private clients and therefore remains outside the public domain in order to respect client confidentiality.
Mr. Paul subsequently sold his stake in Darwish Ast LLC to the principal partner.
Corporate Leadership and Diversification
Beyond MIDOIL and Darwish Ast LLC, Mr. Paul has held leadership positions in other prominent business organizations. He served as a Director of Oman Ceramic Co. SAOG until 2018 and subsequently as Vice-Chairman from 2018 to 2021.
Another noteworthy business venture associated with Mr. Paul is Wilmax Controls, a joint venture with a Singapore-based company specializing in valve automation and Well Head Control systems.
Over the years, Mr. Paul has also diversified his business interests into the real estate sector, further demonstrating his entrepreneurial versatility and ability to identify opportunities across industries.
In 2009, Mr. Rajan Paul became an Omani national, marking another significant milestone in his longstanding association with the Sultanate.

Despite his extensive professional accomplishments, Mr. Paul maintains a grounded and understated approach to life. An avid traveler and automobile enthusiast, he also values spending time with elderly people and supporting others through quiet acts of philanthropy.
