Dr. Reshmy Krishnan exemplifies versatility and excellence, distinguishing herself as a multifaceted professional of exceptional caliber. An academician par excellence, she is also a dynamic technical and public speaker, accomplished author, media personality, and trained classical dancer, seamlessly balancing her diverse roles with remarkable élan.
With over 29 years of rich teaching experience in Higher Education, Dr. Reshmy currently serves as Head of Research and Associate Professor at Muscat College in Sultanate of Oman. Her expertise is further recognized through her role as a Programme Reviewer with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (Oman), as well as her position as a member of the Board of Directors of the Oman Association for Quality in Higher Education under the Ministry of Social Development in Oman. She has contributed significantly to academic governance, having served as an IT Academic Council Member on the Board of Directors of Indian Schools in Oman from 2017 to 2021, and continues to be an active member of advisory boards across several universities globally. In addition, she is a PhD supervisor for candidates and thesis evaluator in Indian universities, reflecting her sustained commitment to academic excellence and research mentorship.
A Journey That Began in Mavelikkara
Dr. Reshmy Krishnan hails from Mavelikkara in the Alappuzha district, where she was born to Mr. P. Narayana Pillai, a retired high school teacher, and Ms. K. B. Ramani Amma, a retired higher secondary school principal. She holds a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Computer Science and Engineering, followed by a PhD in Artificial Intelligence. Further advancing her academic credentials, she completed her postdoctoral research in Intelligent Systems at the University of Stirling, UK.
She began her academic career as an Assistant Professor at Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, where she served from 1997 to 2006. In 2006, she moved to Muscat and joined the Higher College of Technology under the Ministry of Manpower as a Lecturer, a position she held until 2010. Following this, she became part of Muscat College, where she has continued to make significant academic and research contributions.
In recognition of her academic excellence and deep subject expertise, she was appointed as the Head of the Department of Computer Science in 2012 and was subsequently elevated to the position of Head of the Research Centre in 2018. Notably, her vision and initiative played a pivotal role in establishing the Research and Innovation Centre at Muscat College.
Accolades
Dr. Reshmy has been widely recognized for her exemplary contributions to research, education, and community engagement. She was honored with the Best National Research Award in 2014 by The Research Council, Oman, marking a significant milestone in her academic career. In 2018, she was awarded the Distinguished Woman in Engineering Award in recognition of her pioneering initiatives and impactful contributions to the field of Computer Science and Engineering. Her dedication to education and societal development earned her the prestigious Woman Icon India Global Award from the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2019. Continuing her trail of excellence, she received the Distinguished Educator and Scholar Award from the National Foundation for Entrepreneurship Development (NFED) in 2020. Alongside these accolades, Dr. Reshmy demonstrated strong leadership as the Chair of the Industry and Community Engagement Committee at Muscat College from 2017 to 2021, fostering meaningful collaborations between academia, industry, and the wider community.
Dr. Reshmy has built a distinguished research and academic profile marked by significant scholarly contributions and active engagement in the academic community. Her work includes 15 book chapters, authorship of the book Computer Programming, and over 100 publications in reputed journals and conference proceedings, along with 18 funded research projects. Her research has garnered impactful recognition, reflected in more than 1,200 citations.Beyond her publications, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership in the academic sphere by organizing over 50 national and international conferences. She is also a sought-after resource person and keynote speaker, having delivered expert sessions at more than 60 seminars, workshops, faculty development programmes, and conferences hosted by various higher education institutions and organizations.
Family and Passions
Dr. Reshmy is deeply committed to community service, reflecting her passion for social impact alongside her academic pursuits. A compassionate humanist and dedicated mentor, she has initiated more than 15 community engagement initiatives in Oman. She is widely recognized as a resource person by Indian schools across the country, where she regularly delivers career guidance sessions, awareness programmes, and student–parent orientation initiatives. Her commitment to social responsibility is further demonstrated through the organization of several charitable events. Dr. Reshmy is also the founder of the global women’s network Wings of Women World (WWW), which spans over 13 countries with 350 members and is dedicated to the empowerment of women. Through this platform, she actively conducts awareness programmes, counseling sessions, and charitable initiatives aimed at supporting and uplifting women.
In addition, she leads Raw and Real, a social media initiative through which she broadcasts educational programmes and interviews, extending her reach and impact to a wider audience.
Beyond her academic and professional achievements, Dr. Reshmy is an accomplished classical dancer with numerous performances to her credit, reflecting her dedication to the arts. She is an avid reader with a particular appreciation for the works of renowned authors M. T. Vasudevan Nair and K. R. Meera. In addition to her artistic and literary interests, she also pursues writing, showcasing her creativity and intellectual depth.
Dr. Reshmy is married to Mr. Krishnan Narayanan, a distinguished global business leader and the Chief Executive Officer of Aquanza Technologies and Solutions LLP (India) and The Pioneer International Business Solutions LLC (Sultanate of Oman). He brings with him extensive leadership experience, having held key positions such as Business Development Manager at Voltas Ltd. (India) and BEC (Sultanate of Oman), as well as General Manager at Lalbuksh Voltas LLC (Sultanate of Oman).
Their elder son, Ashok Krishnan (BTech, MS), is a Business Analyst based in Melbourne, Australia, while his wife, Kavya (BTech, MS), is associated with Melbourne Metro. Their younger daughter, Aparna Krishnan, a Product Designer, is currently based in New York, having graduated from the Parsons School of Design.
