Siraj Kakkur aka Sirajudeen is the owner of Legend Fitness. A fitness enthusiast himself, he is the heart and soul of the establishment which is the most sought after hi-tech gym in Sohar.
From Kakkur to Oman
He hails from Kakkur in Kozhikode District. He was born to Abdul Rahman, who worked in the private sector, and Fathima, a house wife. It was in 2002 that he started his career in the Gulf by working in Saudi fast food chain Herfy. Based in Riyadh, he worked there for six years before moving to Qatar. There, he set up a gym on a partnership basis and ran it successfully for five years. It was in 2015 that Legend Fitness was started with the assistance of an Omani sponsor.
He started with two trainers and today there are 20. The two people who inspired him to start this dream venture were actor Abu Shaheed and the late cine actor Mammukoya.
About Legend Fitness
Legend Fitness is a state-of-the-art gym located in Falaj Al Qabail area of Sohar. It would not be wrong to call it the most frequented facility of fitness enthusiasts in the area given its sheer range of advance equipment, 24-hour access and personalised attention. What sets it apart from traditional gyms is the presence of hi-tech equipment and the smart assistance provided to users. They include adaptive resistance machines in which physical plates are replaced with electromagnetic resistance. These equipment can adjust the weight mid-rep to provide an eccentric load or spot the user if there is any muscle failure.
The facility also has strength and training equipment. It has a wide array of strength-building gear, including professional grade weightlifting cages and power racks. There are a variety of plate-loaded machines and selectorised equipment that are designed for targeted muscle isolation. The amenities include a dedicated functional training area and a wide selection of free weights, including dumbbells and kettlebells.
When it comes to cardio and fitness, there are standard cardio machines such as treadmills and stationary bikes to support aerobic conditioning. The floor is designed with specialised athletic flooring that is often rolled rubber or turf to minimize impact and reduce noise during heavy lifts.
The facility also has dedicated glute and solo-life zones with specialised biomechanically optimised machines for movements like the barbell hip thrust. For solo lifters, smart Smith machines and power racks include automated spotter arms that engage if a rep is missed. Patrons are enticed by its special layout that is designed for efficient workout flow. The facility caters to both general fitness goals and more intense athletic performance training.
Other added features of the gym include 3-D motion-capture technology to analyse the posture. For instance, if the back arches while performing a squat, an AR screen or earbuds will provide corrections instantly. Sensors embedded in equipment keep track of vibrations and heat to alert the staff before a cable snaps or a motor fails. There is also biometric accessibility for customers, ensuring safe, hassle-free access.
Family and Passions
From school days, he has been enthusiastic about mimicry, theatre, sports, karate, fitness, acting and short movies.
Even now, he does not shy away from opportunities to prove his acting prowess in front of the camera, mainly short films. He is also very much active with KMCC Sohar. He is married to Shanisa, a homemaker, and they have three children. The eldest Gina Mariam is in Class XII and the second child Alin Mohammed is in Class IV in Kozhikode and the third Eada Eldis is just three.
